Dr. Doug Ross is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (BSc, MD). After an internship at Toronto East General Hospital, he completed his plastic surgery training at the University of Toronto. This was followed by two years of fellowship training in Toronto (Hand and Microsurgery) and Louisville, Kentucky (Hand Surgery). He has been a faculty member at the University of Western Ontario since 1992.  

He is past-Chair of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Western University.  He is a member of the Canadian Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Society for Peripheral Nerve, the American Association for Hand Surgery. His clinical interests include upper extremity surgery, reconstructive microsurgery and peripheral nerve surgery. 

Along with Dr Tom Miller, in 1995 Dr Ross established the Peripheral Nerve Clinic for the care of patients with complex nerve problems.  This multi-disciplinary clinic has served as a model of care for nearly every academic program across Canada since that time.  In 2016, Drs Miller, Ross and Chris Doherty (UBC) established the Canadian Peripheral Nerve Symposium held annually in October with speakers from across Canada and around the world.

In addition, Dr Ross has a strong interest in surgical education. He completed a Masters of Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto in 2004. He is a past member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Examination Board in Plastic Surgery from 2002-2013 and served as the Chief Examiner from 2008-2013.  From 2013 to 2019, he served as Chair of the Royal College Specialty Committee in Plastic Surgery.  He has served as a member of the Assessment Committee for the Royal College since 2016.
