School statement on views expressed in offensive social media post

On April 23, a Schulich Medicine & Dentistry faculty member shared tweets criticizing COVID-19 public health measures. Those posts have since been deleted. The views expressed in the original posts are offensive and do not align with the views of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry or Western University.

The COVID-19 pandemic is among the most significant health crises we have faced and Schulich Medicine & Dentistry remains immensely supportive of and grateful to the health care workers who continue to provide extraordinary care and to the public health experts who advocate for the health of our communities during this trying time.

The unprecedented nature of this pandemic has led to varying opinions and discourses. Universities are places where these discussions and debate can take place, and where controversial and sometimes unsettling ideas are presented and challenged. With this in mind, individual faculty members have the freedom to express their opinions and beliefs, but those views are their own and do not represent the views of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry or Western University.

The University is dedicated to promoting and strictly adhering to guidelines set out by public health experts to keep our campus and community safe.
