TRAVEL GUIDELINES
SWOMEN funds travel for postgraduate trainees as follows:
- Travel costs for educational purposes will be paid for during the rotation, i.e. attendance required at any educational session.
- All travel costs will be reimbursed in accordance with the travel reimbursement policies of The University of Western Ontario. Full details here.
- Travel reimbursements are calculated using the following formula, (kms x $0.57). For example, one round trip from London to Sarnia would result in a claim of $114 (200kms x $0.57 = $114.00)

Expense reports must be completed and submitted no later than sixty (60) days after the end date of the community rotation.
- Rural Regional Trainees Only - Commuting travel to and from your home-based training site, will be paid to a resident when the rotation location permits the resident to commute on a daily or a regular basis.

Windsor Trainees Only - SWOMEN will fund travel for Windsor postgraduate trainees as follows:

One trip by personal vehicle from London to Windsor for the purposes of moving to Windsor to participate in postgraduate rotation to a maximum of $114.00 (200 kms x $0.57 = $114.00).

One trip by personal vehicle from London upon completion of their SWOMEN Windsor postgraduate rotation to a maximum of $114.00 (200kms x $0.57 = $114.00).

Windsor Trainees Only |
Family Medicine PGY1 and PGY2 Residents Only |

Though some travel may be necessary between Windsor and London, SWOMEN does not encourage trainee travel. SWOMEN will make every effort to assist trainees to attend teaching occurring in London via teleconference or videoconference. On a limited basis, SWOMEN will fund travel to London for teaching purposes only if teleconferencing or videoconferencing is not available. In the event of a family or personal emergency, SWOMEN will assist trainees with travel at SWOMEN’s discretion. |
SWOMEN funds Elective rotations in SWOMEN communities per the SWOMEN policy. Core rotations for Family Medicine PGY1 and PGY2 residents continue to be funded by the Department of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, The University of Western Ontario. ACCOMMODATION GUIDELINES
SWOMEN has accommodation facilities available in the major training communities and offer this housing to all residents; the costs are maintained by SWOMEN. Often the housing is a bedroom in an apartment/home shared with other learners. All accommodations offered have high speed internet and are located in close proximity to the local hospital. Accommodations do not permit pets.
IMPORTANT:Residents receive an email prior to the rotation to inquire about the requirements for accommodation. Should a resident have specific needs please contact the Program Coordinator for the rotation to discuss your circumstances. Residents must confirm their accommodation needs with their respective Program Coordinator one month, (30 days) in advance of their rotation. If notice is not received one month, (30 days) prior to the start of the rotation then it will be assumed by SWOMEN that accommodation is not necessary and will therefore not be funded by SWOMEN. |
