Evelyn Vingilis, Director of the Population and Community Health Unit in the Department of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, is among this year's recipients of the Leading Women, Building Communities Award.

At a ceremony last month in London at the Boys and Girls Club, Evelyn was presented with the award by London MLAs, Deb Matthews, Minister Responsible for Women's Issues; Attorney General, Chris Bentley; and Khalil Ramal, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community and Social Services.

The Ontario wide award recognizes exemplary community contributions and Dr. Vingilis is indeed a worthy recipient. A dedicated researcher, her internationally recognised work in traffic safety, health care program evaluation and injury prevention has improved the lives of many. Among other things, her research has been instrumental in altering the social perception of impaired driving.
