Hello Schulich Windsor!

Our first semester comes to a close as we welcome colder weather and holiday spirit. It has been another successful semester. The 2017's have adjusted comfortably into their new home, the MEB; and the 2015's have become less acquainted with their homes by spending most of their time in the clinics and hospitals.

This term saw the beginning and the end of a University of Windsor strike. The staff and students remained exceptionally resilient. Classes resumed as usual, as did most interest groups and student-run events. When the strike ended, though, we were all happy to be reunited with the staff again.

In late October, students organized this year's first Schulich's Got Talent at the Green Bean café, which featured various talented acts from students within the 2017 and 2016 classes. Several love songs were sang - some were romantic and others were humorously sarcastic - in the end we do spend too much time together.

Our customary lunch with Dr. Cooper was held in early November. There were a large number of students from all of the classes in attendance. There was so much Italian pasta that we had to use two lecture rooms and videoconference Dr. Cooper's speech from one room into the next!

November also marked the beginning of the first Schulich Medicine Rounds held in Windsor. This featured a casual evening at the Rock Bottom Bar and Grill. It was a great opportunity to network outside of our respective graduating classes. We hope that Schulich Medicine Rounds continues to be a tradition here!

November also welcomed students from the London campus to our formal Integration Weekend. Students had the opportunity to attend day tours of hospitals in Windsor, the Hiram Walker Facility, the Leamington District Memorial Hospital, the Harrow Family Health Team, Point Pelee National Park and the Oxley Winery. Other events included a Red Wings game in Detroit, "The King and I" theatre production and curling at the Beach Grove Country Club.

The first Engineering/Medicine Research Event was recently held in the MEB. It is the first time Schulich Medicine Windsor has formally invited University of Windsor faculty researchers to talk about their research projects with medical students. Dr. Cooper and Dr. Figelwicz, vice-dean Research & Innovation have been greatly dedicated toward improving research opportunities for students studying at the Windsor campus. We have two more research events planned for the next semester with the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Human Kinetics.

This past semester has flown by. It feels like just yesterday that we stepped foot into the MEB, fresh from the summer. Yet, we have already accomplished so much in three months time. I think it's safe to say - we are ready for you 2014!
