Moving Forward with Melissa Machado - Outgoing Hippocratic Council VP Windsor

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Our school year is coming to a close and I'm proud to say that it has been another successful year. Windsor Program students have once again been involved in a number of outreach activities.

The Schulich Windsor Health Lecture Series provided valuable information to families across the region about autism, healthy aging and concussions.

Our Head for a Cure campaign supported Transition to Betterness as several of our student volunteers cut and donated their hair for cancer. And our MedPals continued to provide mentorship for high school students interested in medical careers. We also held a number of social events which helped to create stronger bonds between the students across the Windsor Program classes.

We are very sad to see our Class of 2013 leave us as they have been an extremely positive influence on the younger years. When they began, the campus was still very new. They were trailblazers setting up opportunities for the classes which followed them. We are so proud of them for their 100 per cent match rate and we wish them all the best as they move on in our careers.

As we move forward to next year, our goals are to strengthen our relationship with our classmates in London and to continue trying to provide equal opportunities for students in Windsor. We are blessed with the advantage of having a strong community of physicians who have been so quick to embrace us and teach us with such enthusiasm. We would also like to continue reaching out into the community and further establishing great relationships with the patients with whom we will be working.

I am excited to introduce Erica Hoe (ehoe2016@meds.uwo.ca) as the incoming VP Windsor on Hippocratic Council, who will continue on in my role. She is a truly amazing individual and I know we can expect great things from her next year.
