Dr. James Calvin, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry alumnus takes the reigns of the Department of Medicine

Dr. James Calvin, alumnus, takes the reins as the new Chair/Chief of the Department of Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

Dr. Calvin graduated from medical school at Dalhousie University in 1975. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Critical Care at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry in 1980. He went on to a residency in Cardiology at the University of Ottawa in 1981.

Dr. Calvin received postdoctoral training at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of California as a Medical Research Council Fellow. In 1981 he joined the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa as an Assistant Professor.

He was recruited as an Associate Professor to the Department of Medicine at Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois in 1991. Dr. Calvin's previous administrative experience includes Division Chair, Adult Cardiology, Stroger Hospital of Cook County (1999-2001), Medical Director, Rush Heart Institute (2002-2005) and Section Director, Clinical Preventative Medicine, Rush University Medical Center (2012-2013). In 2012, Dr. Calvin completed a Physician Executive MBA from the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Calvin is an internationally renowned and acclaimed scholar, with more than 330 publications and book chapters to his name. He serves as an external reviewer for the Medical Research Council of Canada, Canadian Heart Foundation, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the American Health Journal
