Announcement: Dr. Wael Haddara appointed as Interim Chair, Department of Medicine

Dr. Wael HaddaraWe are pleased to announce that Dr. Wael Haddara has been appointed to the Department of Medicine as:

  • Interim Chair (Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University);
  • Interim Physician Department Executive (London Health Sciences Centre); and
  • Interim Chief (St. Joseph’s Health Care London).

The appointments will be effective November 30, 2023 (LHSC and St. Joseph’s) and December 1, 2023, to December 31, 2025, or until a permanent Chair/Physician Executive/Chief is appointed, whichever is sooner.

Dr. Haddara is a critical care physician at LHSC and an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. He is a medical educator with a research focus on excavating ideas related to medical professional identity that are seen as timeless and intrinsic to the field.

Dr. Haddara has an evolving interest in character and leadership, drawing on the Ivey Business School Leader Character framework.

His clinical and other research interests include modelling the impact of COVID-19 on hospital and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) resources, leveraging remote/virtual ICU technology to expand capacity and facilitating post-pandemic procedural backlog recovery.

Prior to his career in medicine, Dr. Haddara trained and worked as a pharmacist. He is currently registered with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Dr. Haddara obtained his MD degree from Queen’s University and completed fellowships in Endocrinology & Metabolism and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Haddara also has a Masters of Medical Education from Dundee University, U.K.

During this period of interim leadership, Dr. Haddara looks forward to working collaboratively to best support clinical and departmental operations and to ensure the optimal functioning of the Department.
