Announcement: Dr. Richard Kim re-appointed as the Wolfe Medical Research Chair in Pharmacogenomics

I am pleased to announce Dr. Richard Kim has been re-appointed as the Wolfe Medical Research Chair in Pharmacogenomics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University from September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2028.

In 1987, Dr. Kim earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Saskatchewan where he also completed his Residency Training in Internal Medicine. In 1994, completed his research fellowship at Vanderbilt University within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology.

In 2006, Dr. Kim was recruited to Western University from Vanderbilt University to head the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, in the Department of Medicine, which has now become the largest clinical pharmacology training program in Canada, and second largest in North America

He has been appointed as full Professor in the Department of Medicine, Physiology and Pharmacology, as well as Oncology at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.

Dr. Kim is actively leading a program of excellence in personalized medicine. In 2008, he started the first personalized medicine clinic in Canada, and since 2011, personalized medicine inpatient consultation service has been available for our patients. He has leveraged cutting-edge pharmacogenomics technologies to provide individualized drug dosing and selection that enhance drug efficacy while avoiding adverse drug side effects.

His vision is for a personalized medicine program to grow and serve as the founding site and a Centre for Excellence in Personalized Medicine research and patient care. 

Dr. Kim is an elected Member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS).
