Announcement: Dr. Ali Tassi appointed Antonios Mamandras Chair in Graduate Orthodontics

I am pleased to announce Dr. Ali Tassi has been appointed as the Antonios Mamandras Chair in Graduate Orthodontics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2028.

Dr. Tassi completed his Bachelor of Sciences in Chemistry and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees both at Western University, followed by a residency in hospital-based dentistry at the Ohio State University Medical Centre. He returned to Schulich Medicine & Dentistry to complete specialty training in orthodontics, earning his Master of Clinical Dentistry in 2007 and was granted fellowship status in the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

Dr. Tassi was most recently the Assistant Dean, Postgraduate Dental Education at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. He was appointed an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the School in 2007, Assistant Professor in the Division of Graduate Orthodontics in 2009, and became Associate Professor this past year.

Dr. Tassi is Staff Orthodontist in the Department of Dentistry at London Health Sciences Centre and has been the Director of the Graduate Orthodontic Clinic at Western University for close to 15 years. He has also served as Course Director in Orthodontics at Schulich Continuing Dental Education since 2009. 

Dr. Tassi has consistently maintained an impressive record of research and publication in the top peer-reviewed journals and books in dentistry and orthodontics. He has received research funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research, the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, and Schulich Dentistry’s Internal Research Grant program, as well as from orthodontic industry partners (Align, 3M and Ormco, amongst others). He has filed Reports of Innovation in orthodontics in 2016 and 2018.

Dr. Tassi has been the recipient of various awards through-out his career including, the University Students’ Council Teaching Honour Roll Award of Excellence twice; a Vanguard Award from WORLDiscoveries; the Graduate Orthodontics Research Award; the Alpha Omega Award; the American Association of Orthodontist Award in Oro-Facial Growth; the Centennial Orthodontic & Paediatric Dentistry Award; and the International College of Dentists Award.
