Award: Dr. Clive Friedman nationally recognized for contributions to dental care

Congratulations to Dr. Clive Friedman, adjunct professor at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, for being recognized with the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) Distinguished Service Award.

This award is given to recognize outstanding contributions to the dental profession, the dental community or the oral health of Canadians at large.

Clive Friedman accepting his awardDr. Friedman is a pediatric dentist who has devoted his career to improving the lives of children and those with special needs. His other interests include behavioral facilitation, family violence, caries management, motivational interviewing, and functional oral health. 

He was educated in South Africa, obtained his specialty training at Louisiana State University and has been on the faculty at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry since 1981. He is a past president of the Academy of Persons with Disabilities and the International Association of Disability and Oral Health and he currently sits on the editorial board of the British Society for Disability and Oral Health.  

Over the last five years, he has been involved with teaching local dentists in Honduras with the aim of establishing long-term sustainable oral health programs in the country. These programs include school brushing programs and infant and prenatal programs.

Dr. Friedman has published and lectured extensively both nationally and internationally and has been involved in numerous workshops related to oral health, risk management and motivational interviewing.
