Announcement: Western and UWindsor re-sign Affiliation Agreement

Western University and the University of Windsor today re-signed an Affiliation Agreement for the operation of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry – Windsor Campus for another 10 years.

The first Affiliation Agreement led to the opening of the Windsor Campus in September 2008. Since then, the program has expanded to include postgraduate residents who train in Windsor, the first stages of the development of a research program, an enhanced role in helping to improve healthcare delivery in the community, and a greater role in faculty affairs.

The Windsor Campus now has 152 students studying across four years of medical education.

UWindsor President Alan Wildeman said the new agreement will continue to build and expand on the collaboration between the University and Western.

“Our collaboration with Western provides a full medical education program in Windsor and represents an exceptional partnership that is making our university and community stronger,” said Dr. Wildeman.

"Western is pleased to continue this partnership which has so far graduated 165 physicians since its inception in 2008,” said Western President Amit Chakma. “The communities of Windsor and Essex County are well served by having a program of this caliber offered at the Schulich Medicine - Windsor Campus, and we look forward to strengthening our medical teaching and research collaborations in the decade ahead.”

The signing was held in the Atrium of the Dr. Murray O’Neil Medical Education Building at the University of Windsor.

Joining Dr. Wildeman and President Chakma were UWindsor Provost Dr. Douglas Kneale, Dr. Gerry Cooper, Associate Dean, Windsor Campus, Dr. Michael J. Strong, Dean, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, and Dwayne Martins, Chief Operating Officer, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.
