Announcement: Dr. John Yoo extended as Chair/Chief of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery

We are pleased to announce that Dr. John Yoo has been extended as Chair/Chief of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care London, effective July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2018.

Dr. John Yoo graduated from medicine from the University of Toronto in 1991. He also completed his residency training in Otolaryngology, as well as fellowship training in Head and Neck Oncology & Microvascular Surgery at the University of Toronto. He joined Western University in 1997.

His clinical and academic interests are cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction, facial reanimation surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He has pioneered several surgical techniques for head and neck reconstruction and has trained numerous residents and fellows who have gone on to academic careers throughout Canada and beyond. He has published and lectured extensively in the areas of oncology, reconstructive surgery, wound healing, and quality-of-life.

Dr. Yoo is the Fellowship Director and Divisional Leader of the Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery Program, the Co-director of The London Facial Nerve Clinic, and Thyroid Cancer London. Dr. Yoo is the Co-chair of Cancer Care Ontario Head and Neck Disease Site team and the Chair of the Thyroid Cancer Subcommittee.

Dr. Yoo has been the longest serving Chair of the Committee of Canadian Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Chairs, and he serves on numerous international committees. Dr. Yoo is an executive board member of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and vice-president elect of the Canadian Association of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology.
