Sara McKelvie is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer at the School of Primary Care Research, University of Southampton. Sara was awarded her doctorate on “Clinical Decision Making in Uncertainty; An Ethnography of a Complex Intervention in the Ambulatory Emergency Care setting” from the University of Oxford in 2021. Sara completed a Masters in Gerontology from King’s College London in 2017. Sara is interested in community-based alternatives to hospitalisation for older people with complex health and social needs (Ambulatory Care). Her research has investigated patient, staff and system needs using qualitative, ethnographic and cognitive task analysis methods. She is interested in the future workforce needed for primary care and the changing roles of healthcare professionals in the community. Sara is an NHS GP working in Ambulatory Care, treating patients closer to home during an acute illness (Ambulatory Care Units - YouTube). She is also Medical Lead for an NHS Foundation Trust.
