For over 15 years, I worked in health care as a social worker. Health system transformation became a passion as my family increasingly needed access to health care. Along the way servant leadership has supported my growth as a researcher, engagement specialist, and a patient partner. Sitting at governance tables, collaborating on funded grants, working as an engagement specialist within USASK Resident training sites, and being a patient partner in the primary care clinic I attend have all shaped my approach to evidence informed practice.
My research area within TUTOR-PHC is to co-create a facilitation guide to support the Resident Training Sites and the development of a PBRLN (Practice Based Research Learning Network) in Saskatchewan. The facilitation guide will be used to help both patients and clinicians co-create a community of belonging and safety in their clinics. Each of the Resident Training Sites is a primary care clinic and the goal is for each Site to engage patient partners to support the scholarship of the Residents. The PBRLN will facilitate real-time data collection which includes patient-reported experience and outcome measures. This will bring value to patients and to members of the integrated care team. The approach will be community based participatory research.
