Dr. Susan Kimani
Clinical Fellow, 2017 - 2019
I am from Nairobi, Kenya in East Africa.
I completed my undergraduate and paediatric residency at the University of Nairobi, the first and largest university in Kenya. Throughout residency I was interested in Neonatology and Critical care and I completed my Master’s thesis on Nutritional Support in Critically Ill Infants and Children. After residency, I had the opportunity to work as a pediatrician in two tertiary level NICUs initially in the private sector and more recently in the public sector at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Research interests - Neonatal hemodynamics; database use and development to target improved neonatal outcomes.
My goals on returning to my home hospital after fellowship are to develop sustainable strategies for improved data collection, including a neonatal database as an entry point to direct further interventions to improve outcomes in our unit.
Academic Project:
- The Use of Combination Therapy with Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen for Closure of The Patent Ductus Arteriosus in Preterm Neonates (Supervisor: Dr. S. Bhattacharya)
