Dr. John Evans

Dr. John Evans Dr. John Evans (1929-2015). After obtaining a medical degree from the University of Toronto, Dr. John Evans was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and later trained as a cardiologist. As the founding Dean of the McMaster University Medical School, he pioneered a new model of medical education that was widely followed by other medical schools. Dr. Evan's was president of the University of Toronto from 1972 to 1978. He later became the first director of the World Bank’s Population, Health and Nutrition Division. Dr. Evan's was the first chair of the Canadian Foundation for Innovation and was also a founder of MaRs Discovery District, an organization whose mission is 'To drive economic and societal prosperity by harnessing the full potential of Canadian innovation' with a focus in areas of work regarding learning, health and energy. In 1978, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada and in 1991, a member of the Order of Ontario.
