Dr. Augusta Stowe-Gullen

Dr. Augusta Stowe-Gullen Dr. Augusta Stowe-Gullen (1857-1943). Dr. Augusta Stowe-Gullen was the daughter of Dr. Emily Stowe, the first woman to practice medicine in Canada. Dr. Augusta Stowe-Gullen became the first women to practise medicine in Canada to have graduated from a Canadian medical school in 1883. She taught at the Ontario Medical College for Women, where she was a professor of diseases of children and was an early staff member of the Toronto Western Hospital. Dr. Stowe-Gullen was involved with the suffragette movement, the temperance movement, the University Women’s Club, the Women’s Art Association and many other community focused organizations. In 1935, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire.
