Welcome to PGME!

Message from the Associate Dean

Welcome to the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry’s Office of Postgraduate Medical Education.  Schulich is a great place for postgraduate training, offering nearly 50 postgraduate programs accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  We are committed to providing an outstanding resident experience, whether in London or in our diverse distributed sites.  Our programs offer an outstanding depth and breadth of educational experiences that will prepare learners for challenging and productive careers.

A major focus for the coming year is accreditation.  Accreditation of postgraduate training programs is conducted by the two Colleges on a six-year cycle, and our next accreditation site visit is approaching in the fall of 2012.  Accreditation is an important milestone for programs, and provides an opportunity for them to highlight their strengths and reflect on areas for program enhancement.  Our culture is one of continuous quality improvement, reflected not only in the importance we place on accreditation, but also in many other ways including a robust process of internal review and a diverse offering of faculty development opportunities for educators and program directors.

The PGME Office promotes and supports excellence in clinical teaching, curriculum design, clinical assessment, and program evaluation.  We are available to assist programs with all aspects of postgraduate training, including the development and strengthening of robust curricula that address the CanMEDS roles in a meaningful way.  Please contact us with any inquiries related to postgraduate training.
