July 27, 2017 A medical student bursary is provided to qualifying candidates with the hope that the candidate will choose to practice medicine in the City of Kawartha Lakes and apply for active privileges at Ross Memorial Hospital.
A bursary of up to $2,000 per academic year will be provided to each qualifying candidate up to a maximum of $10,000 per fiscal year. Candidates may receive a bursary for a maximum of three academic years.
June 01, 2017 Gunjan Mhapankar has a deep interest in international development projects. Having just completed her first year of the Doctor of Medicine Program at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Mhapankar is passionate about using her skills to instill positive changes to the mental health system and create positive, long-term outcomes for those affected by mental illness. She is channeling this passion into her Global Minds Summer Institute experience and spending three weeks in Kenya working with a team of students and faculty from Western University and Kenya.
May 26, 2017 Working to innovate new mental health solutions, Michelle Quaye, a member of the Schulich Medicine Class of 2020, aims to use her experience with the Global MINDS Summer Institute in Kenya to inform her future practise as a physician.
As a way of applying her learnings back home in Canada, Quaye hopes to identify if there are any similarities between the Kenyan and Canadian mental health care systems.

Preliminary judging will be done by the Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University, and final judging will be by Richard M. Berlin, M.D., psychiatrist and poet from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The editors of the Journal of Medical Humanities will review the winning poems and consider them for publication.
