Guiding Practice: Current Issues in Gender, Sexuality and Health is an interprofessional conference that will explore the health and healthcare needs of diverse LGBTQ2+ communities.

This is an opportunity to reflect on the intersections of health inequity with gender, sexuality, race and socioeconomic class. What are the disparities in health and healthcare access faced by the community? How can healthcare professionals work to bridge this gap?

Keynote:

  • Dr. Anne Reid, past-president of the Canadian Medical Association & LGBTQ2+ physician in rural Canada

Speakers:

  • El-Farouk Khaki, LGBTQ2+ immigration and refugee lawyer
  • Dr. Albina Veltman, psychiatrist with expertise in LGBTQ2+ mental health

Workshops:

  • sexual health history-taking

  • queer families
  • immigration
  • substance use
  • HIV risk-reduction counseling
  • gender-based violence

Everyone is welcome! This will be a day full of education, inquiry and productive discussion with folks committed to health equity.
