Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in Interprofessional Education

Date: Friday, March 8, 2013
Time: 9
:00 am-12:00 noon
King's University College, Rm. LH100

The process of evidence-based practice (EBP) was introduced into the field of medicine in the early 1990s and since that time it has found widespread application within all of the health-care and human service professions. This process has been uneven and not without contro-versy. Much of this controversy is centered around various misunderstandings of what EBP really involves.

This talk will present an overview of the real process model of EBP and distinguish it from separate initiatives such as empirically-supported treatments and empirical clinical practice. Apart from demonstrating why there are no such things as "evidence-based practices", the positive implications and applications of EBP will be presented for the fields of social work, education, and other human service disciplines.
