rESEARCH bULLETIN Denise's Message

Dr. Denise Figlewicz

Dear Colleagues,

Summer is winding down, and I hope that all of you had some opportunity for relaxation and enjoyment during the hot, sunny days.

A number of deadlines are approaching for major funding opportunities. These include registration for CIHR Foundation Scheme competition and Project Scheme competition. CIHR has also scheduled Q&A webinar sessions to share information. If you are applying to Foundation Scheme for the first time, you are encouraged to contact us or Natalie Szudy at Research Western to learn about the support available for preparation of your application.

Research Western provides support for applications to major U.S. funding programs, particularly NIH. You are strongly encouraged to consider application to these funding sources, and we will work with you to identify the funding opportunity/RFA with which your research best aligns. Please contact us or Theresa Russelo at Research Western to discuss these opportunities.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is pleased to be offering some new services at below standard retail cost:

  • Media/plate service (directed by Dr. Martin McGavin): We will be offering ready to use/pick up f LB-amp plates (20/sleeve) and sterile LB media (of different volumes in different size flasks) during working hours in Dental Sciences Building, Rm. 3002. We will also offer made-to-order media and plates for common bacteria and yeast cultures with a 24-48 hour turnover.
  • Vector cloning and production (directed by Dr. Yong Gao): We will start with the production and titres of standard 2nd and 3rd gen lentiviral vectors. We will also add in the cloning of shRNAs or genes into standard 3rd gen backbones followed by production and titers. Finally, we will add in an adenovirus vector service.

Information related to a number of additional funding opportunities can be found below in this newsletter.  Don't hesitate to contact us with questions.

With best regards,

Denise Figlewicz, PhD
Vice Dean, Research & Innovation
