Dr. Christopher G. Scilley Fund in Plastic Surgery Reconstruction

Dr. Chris Scilley was an outstanding member of the Division of Plastic Surgery for three decades and devoted his professional career to the care of plastic surgery patients at Victoria Hospital. Dr. Scilley’s primary interest throughout his career was burn and wound care, and lower extremity reconstruction. He was a leader and a patient advocate for these patients during his career and continues to be so in retirement through the establishment of the Scilley Fund.

The mandate of the Scilley Fund is to support junior faculty in the research of burn and wound care, lower extremity reconstruction or skin oncology. This year, we had a robust competition with four outstanding proposals. The selection committee is proud to award the inaugural Scilley Scholarship to Dr. Andy Simpson for a 2-year term. Dr. Simpson’s project is entitled “Comprehensive population-based analysis of major lower extremity trauma in Ontario: the role of geography, management and patient factors in major amputation risk and outcomes.”

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Simpson on being the first recipient of this award. We also thank the other applicants for their outstanding proposals and encourage them to apply again to the next competition. Finally, we thank Dr. Scilley for his generous contribution that will help secure his legacy of outstanding patient care in London.
