Teamwork: Providing Specialized Paediatric Surgical Care Close to Home

Paediatric surgeons at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, demonstrated an excellent model of a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative team effort for a very rare congenital anomaly case.

The case involved a baby with an extremely rare congenital anomaly which required reconstructive surgery by Dr. Sumit Dave, paediatric urologist, Dr. Tim Carey, paediatric orthopaedic surgeon, and Dr. Andreana Bütter, paediatric general surgeon.  The team was fortunate to have Dr. Armando Lorenzo, a staff urologist at SickKids, travel from Toronto to assist with the preoperative and intraoperative construction of the anomaly.  The team also received support from their orthopaedic colleagues, Drs. Debra Bartley, Waleed Kishta.

The Division of Paediatric Surgery at Children’s Hospital in London, Ontario is honoured to have such highly trained paediatric surgeons and to be able to offer specialized paediatric surgical care close to home for the paediatric population in the Southwest LHIN.
