Save the Date of Friday May 10th, 2019 for the 45th Annual Residents' Research Day in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The event will be held at the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre located in the Darryl J. King Student Life Centre Building on the beautiful King's University College campus at Western University.
Plan to join us on this day to celebrate the dedicated work of our residents, to renew friendships, and to showcase the excellent research and academic growth of our department.
This is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by Continuing Professional Development, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University.
You may claim a maximum of 5.0 hours (credits are automatically calculated).
Each participant should claim only those hours of the credit that he/she actually spends participating in the educational program.
Distinguished Visiting Professor - Dr. Albert Merati
This year for our Distinguished Visiting Professor keynote address, we welcome internationally renowned Otolaryngology specialist, DR. ALBERT MERATI, Professor and Chief of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Washington, and 2018-19 AAOHNS President. His medical training includes a medical degree from the Seattle University of Washington, with an Internship in General Surgery at the San Diego University of California, a Residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and a Research training fellowship in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Division of Head and Neck Surgery at the San Diego University of California, and a Fellowship at the Nashville Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. We look forward to his talk highlighting his clinical interests in operative laryngology that includes complex airway, voice, and swallowing – in addition to his research focus on vocal cord paralysis, tracheotomy complications, management of airway stenosis, and the impact of reflux on laryngeal disorders. Our Department is proud to highlight that two Western graduates, Dr. Maya Sardesai (‘07) and Dr. Amanda Hu (‘11) completed their laryngology fellowship training with Dr. Merati and are currently in academic practices at the University of Washington and University of British Columbia respectively. Dr. Merati will serve as a Research Adjudicator for our event.
Distinguished Guest Alumnus - Dr. Gregory Chernoff
For our Distinguished Guest Alumnus keynote address, we welcome the internationally acclaimed plastic surgeon DR. GREGORY CHERNOFF. This presentation is always highly anticipated, and this year is no exception. Dr. Chernoff is known for his dedication to the art and science of cosmetic surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, and laser therapy. Following medical school in Saskatoon, Dr. Chernoff completed his Otolaryngology residency at Western in 1992. He completed his first fellowship in Canada in flow cytometry and laser surgery. His second fellowship was completed in Indianapolis, Indiana in Head and Neck Surgery, Microvascular Surgery, Breast, and Body Contouring. The third fellowship was completed at the University of California in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Chernoff is a pioneer of both surgical and non-surgical laser therapy techniques which are used world-wide. His research data is used by companies searching out FDA approval for therapies and technologies. We anticipate his talk which will focus on his latest research and advancements in cosmetic and plastic surgery, and laser therapy. Dr. Chernoff will serve as a Research Adjudicator for our event.
