ENT Refresher Day 2019


"To expand the lines of communication between primary care physicians and specialists in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, and to share discussion and recent advances as it pertains to complex or challenging cases in Otolaryngology."

  * This one-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by Continuing Professional Development, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University for up to 3.5 Mainpro+ credits.

Each participant should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent participating in the educational program.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

To review common ENT conditions, such as otitis media and tonsillitis, in the pediatric  population and  their medical and surgical management

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

-Describe current evidence in the approach to otitis media and tonsillitis in the pediatric population.
-Describe the indication for surgical management of otitis media and tonsillitis in the pediatric population.

To understand the presentation of common head and neck skin cancers and their management

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

- Recognize typical and atypical presentations of common head and neck skin cancers.
- Investigate and triage common head and neck skin cancers.
- Describe general principles of management of common head and neck skin cancers.

To review the clinical presentation and management of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

- Generate a comprehensive list of differential diagnoses for patients presenting with symptoms consistent with acute and chronic rhinosinusitis.
- Treat acute and chronic rhinosinusitis based on current evidence.
- Select appropriate patients with symptoms of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis for ENT referral.

To review the presentation of thyroid nodules and understand their management and follow-up, based on TIRADS scoring

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 

-Gain an approach to thyroid nodules.
-Apply TIRADS scoring system in the management of thyroid nodules.

To distinguish sudden sensorineural hearing loss from other presentations and review the urgency and acute management of this condition

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

-Recognize the presentation of SSNHL as an ENT emergency and consult accordingly.
-Describe the general principles of acute management of SSNHL.
