Formal teaching seminars for residents take place every Wednesday morning immediately following Grand Rounds. Residents are excused from clinical duties until noon in order that they might meet the mandatory attendance requirements. Presentations are given largely by faculty but, when guest speakers come for Grand Rounds, they often stay and present the teaching sessions as well. Consult the seminar schedule to see what's coming up.
Journal Club is an important way for residents to develop the habit of regular and discriminating reading of the current literature. Meetings are once a month usually on a Monday and residents will take turns presenting and critiquing papers and leading discussion. Occasionally meetings are held outside of the hospital in nearby restaurants.
