The role of the mycobacterial cell envelope in bacterial physiology and pathogenesis.
Fields of Interest:
- Bacteriology
- Biochemistry

Research Profile
Dr. Moynihan's research group is interested in the enzymes and proteins that govern the mycobacterial cell wall and how these impact on mycobacterial biology.
They use microbiological approaches including systems biology, microscopy, and live cell assays to connect protein function from the molecular to the organismal scale. This is paired with biochemistry, structural biology, and analytical chemistry to identify new biochemical processes.
They are also interested in translating our discoveries to support patient care. In this area they are actively developing next-generation mycobacterial diagnostics that are applicable in a wide variety of healthcare settings.
