The Department of Microbiology & Immunology, established in 1939, has the unique mandate at Western University of research and teaching in Microbiology & Immunology. Teaching occurs in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Faculties of Science and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Graduate Studies, soon to be restructured as the School of Graduate Studies. Research spans key areas of infection and immunity, namely the molecular and cellular biology of microorganisms and viruses as well as the cellular and molecular biology of the immune system.
