Tehmina Ahmad, Medicine Class of 2017

Why medicine?
When it came down to what I felt most passionate about, I found myself caught between two things: a love for the connections, stories and journeys every person has to offer, but also a love of the mystery, awe and curiosity that science ignites. For me, medicine bridges the gap between the two.

Why Schulich Medicine?
Schulich Medicine provides you with incredible opportunities to advance your knowledge, skills and abilities as a future physician and community leader. If you want to start a new club, conduct cutting-edge research or enhance your clinical skills through observerships; these opportunities are placed right at your fingertips.

What do you like most about your experience so far at Schulich Medicine?
We have the most encouraging classmates, faculty and staff! We are taught by the best and brightest. Ultimately, your experiences at Schulich Medicine are truly what you make them. No matter what your interests might be, you will find it here.

What are your career aspirations in medicine?
This is a tough question because once you’re at Schulich Medicine an entire world of opportunities opens up. I have found myself drawn in many directions. My greatest interests lay in internal medicine and pathology (which may seem paradoxical) – they both offer an array of patient stories, teaching opportunities and team-based medicine.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Time travel, to ensure I am in the right place at the right time to help as many patients as possible.

Noah Stern, Medicine Class of 2018

Why medicine?
Well that's a not so short story! I always knew I wanted to be in the sciences and through a fortunate series of incredible opportunities - working in a research lab, shadowing physicians, and volunteering on an ambulance - I realized medicine had everything I looked for in a career.

Why Schulich Medicine?
Schulich Medicine has a great combination of incredible teaching hospitals, an excellent reputation and lively cities. Also, the emphasis on student experience really impressed me. Schulich Medicine has two afternoons per week set aside for extracurricular activities, which you can use to complete observerships or any other activity that you see fit. They have a dedicated support staff looking after students' wellbeing, committees organized to give administration direct feedback from students after each course block, and a large number of clubs and teams ranging from history of medicine to interest in plastic surgery, and from trivia to water polo.

What do you like most about your experience so far at Schulich Medicine?
So far, what I like most about my experience here at Schulich Medicine is the number of opportunities available. Whether it is academic - studying along-side my incredibly bright and inspiring peers; extracurriculars - both athletic and interest-based; or medical - observing physicians at the heads of their field, it seems that every door has been opened for me and my classmates.

What are your career aspirations in medicine?
At this point I am thinking internal medicine, but it's too early to be sure.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Ability to turn water to coffee.
