The Eye Foundation of Canada is a non-profit organization with the mission of encouraging and supporting research, public education and medical education in ophthalmology.
Every summer, one or more medical students, who have just completed their first or second year of medical school, are awarded with an $8,000.00 scholarship to spend their summer furthering their education in ophthalmic medicine, surgery and research.
Programs are currently offered in Toronto (East), Edmonton and Calgary (West).
Both the Eastern and Western programs consist of education and research experience in the diagnosis and management of eye disease.
East: Eye Associates and Humber River Hospital (Toronto), with portions at various University of Toronto teaching hospitals.
West: The Universities of Alberta (Edmonton) and Calgary.
Applications are being accepted for the summer of 2015, with preference to students who intend to pursue a career in ophthalmology.
