Please consider nominating your classmates and/or applying for the following Convocation Awards.

Dean Carol P. Herbert Award in Health Advocacy

This will be awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated a keen interest in one or more of the following areas:
-providing health advocacy within a community organization
-involvement in a health-related social cause to advocate for a community or group of disadvantaged individuals
-participation in an overseas elective in a developing country and subsequent production of a report or presentation

The recipient will be selected by the Progression & Awards Committee and the award will be presented at Convocation.

Value: $350 (one award)

Drs. James and Leslie Rourke Convocation Award in Medicine

This will be awarded to the graduating student who has made an outstanding personal contribution to bettering the lives of others through volunteer work and humanitarian acts while maintaining a high academic standing.

The recipient will be selected by the Progression & Awards Committee and the award will be presented at Convocation. This award was established through Foundation Western by Drs. James Rourke (MD'76, MClinSc'93, LLD '09) and Leslie Rourke (MD'77, MClinSc'96)

Value: $1,000 (one award)

Meds 1969 Dr. Fred & Anne Pattison Humanitarian Award

This will be awarded to the graduating student who has made an outstanding personal contribution to bettering the lives of others through volunteer work and humanitarian acts.

The recipient will be selected by the Progression & Awards Committee and the award will be presented at Convocation. This award was established through Foundation Western by Mrs. Anne Pattison and fellow classmates of Meds `69 to honour Dr. Fred Pattison (Meds'69) for his humanitarian acts as a medical physician.

Value: $1,000 (one award)

James Walker Wood Award in Medicine

This award will be given to the graduating student who demonstrates academic achievement and and intends to pursue a family medicine residency (with a preference for rural family medicine). The recipient must be a Canadian citizen. Preference will be given to a student from a rural location who is involved in extra-curricular and/or community activities (such as medical research, rural family medicine interest groups, music, drama etc.).

This award was established through a generous gift from The Walker Wood Foundation. The Progression & Awards Committee will select a recipient from a short list of nominees provided by the Department of Family Medicine and the award will be presented at Convocation.

Value: $5,000 (one award)
