Interprofessional Education Workshop from the Office of Interprofessional Health Education & Research

Interprofessional Collaboration In Action: Encountering the complexities of pain in practice

Date: Tues. Feb 25 AND Tues. March 4 (Must attend both sessions)
Time: 5:00 – 9:00 pm
Place: Great Hall, Somerville House

Participants will receive a Certificate in Interprofessional Teamwork following both workshops
(Activity Weighting – 5 IPE Credits)

There is no charge for this workshop & a light supper will be provided - twice!

This workshop will assist participants to:
• Understand basic concepts of acute and chronic pain including the bio-psycho-social
model of pain
• Understand the fundamental principles of a pharmacological approach to acute and
chronic pain management
• Recognize the spectrum of aberrant drug behaviours within the context of opioids
• Understand the elements of assessing a patient who is in acute or chronic pain,
including patients with language barriers
• Explore the obstacles/barriers to accessing care faced by patients with chronic pain
• Gain insight into the lived experience of individuals who have chronic pain
• Explore the interprofessional roles of a team that works with patients who have pain
• Gain an appreciation for the value of discussing complex patient issues with other
health professionals within a team
