Fall Global Health Awards

GLOBAL HEALTH AWARDS FALL 2015

The UME Global Health Program is now accepting Fall applications for Fall Global Health Awards. The application deadline has been extended to September 25th. To apply for either award, please complete the application form, and submit it along with your CV to awardsUME@schulich.uwo.ca by 11:59 pm on Sept. 25, 2015.

The Joan Scarfone Memorial Award

Awarded to a student in registered in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Windsor Campus in year four of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program who will be pursuing a medical elective in a developing country. If there are no applicants from the Windsor Campus, the award may be offered to a London student who meets appropriate criteria. The award will be made prior to the student's departure. Applications will be received by the UME Global Health Program and processed by the appropriate Global Health committee. The recipient name will be forwarded to the Progression & Awards Committee for final approval. A call for nomination will be sent out with a deadline of August 31. Candidates may self-nominate.

The Rob Tingley Class of '95 Developing Countries Award

Awarded to a student in year four of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program to assist with the travel or program expenses that are directly related to an international global health elective experience. This award was established by the friends and family of Dr. Rob Tingley of the Medical Class of 1995. Dr. Tingley's elective in Kijabe, Kenya was a life-altering experience, and his friends and family have chosen to honor his legacy by enabling future students to have similar experiences. The elective should enable a medical student to observe first-hand the primary role of poverty in disease and the natural history of disease. The recipient will commit to a four to six week experience. Applications will be received by the UME Global Health Program and processed by the appropriate Global Health committee. The recipient name will be forwarded to the Progression & Awards Committee for final approval. A call for nomination will be sent out with a deadline of August 31. Candidates may self-nominate.
