Fall 2015 Awards for Schulich Undergraduate Medical Students

We are pleased to announce the following opportunities for Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry undergraduate medical students. Please review the criteria to see if you are eligible for any of the following awards. Be sure to pay close attention to deadlines and the application processes, as they vary from award to award. AER Award in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry

Awarded annually to full-time students in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, who are participating in a clinical placement outside of their program location, based on demonstrated financial need. A one-page statement must be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education outlining projected or incurred accommodation and travel costs and must be submitted by October 31st (see Application Process below). The Office of the Registrar will determine financial need and a committee within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry will select the recipients. This award was established with Foundation Western by a generous gift from an anonymous donor.  Value: 8 at $2,500

Ontario Medical Foundation Elective Bursaries

The Ontario Medical Foundation (OMF), a charitable arm of the Ontario Medical Association, offers two bursaries of $500 each to all six medical schools each year to assist students enrolled in elective program.

Application Process: Complete the Application Form  then submit to awards.UME@schulich.uwo.ca before 11:59 pm on Oct. 23, 2015. Recipients are chosen by the Dean of Medicine, or his or her designate, under guidelines established by the Association, including such factors as academic validity of the learning experience, location…and need for assistance.

Ontario Medical Student Bursary Fund (OMSBF) Named Bursaries:

OMSBF Named Bursaries are $2,000 bursaries established by an individual or group to commemorate a physician’s achievements, in memory of a colleague or relative, or to support a student pursuing a specific specialty or from a certain area of the province.

CMA Awards for Young Leaders

The award celebrates the efforts of young physician leaders of tomorrow for their efforts today. The CMA presents the Award for Young Leaders to two students, two residents and two early career physicians (five years post-residency) who have demonstrated exemplary dedication, commitment and leadership in one of the following domains: political, clinical, educational, research and community service.

Relative to these domains, nominees must have: exemplified creativity, initiative and are committed to "making a difference", been active and effective at the local, provincial/territorial and/or national level, and acted as a positive and effective role model for peers and colleagues..

The [OMA] Medical Student Achievement Award

Awarded annually to one student from each of the six provincial medical schools based on significant contributions at the political and/or community level that helps advance the life and/or education of all medical students. Nominations will be accepted directly from medical students. Where necessary, applications may be reviewed by a committee of peers who are elected student representatives of the OMA Section of Medical Students.
