April 04, 2019 Walking through a tight, crowded corridor of the hospital, Clayton Law watched as a father bag-mask ventilated his son and the tiny patient’s mother held on to the IV bags with one arm. In the distance, he saw another family wheeling their loved one off on a stretcher so he could pass away at home. Law was one of 13 undergraduate medical students who took advantage of an opportunity for an international elective. It was an eye-opening learning experience none will ever forget.

June 26, 2018 The 2018 International Summer Program is an interactive two-week immersion program that looks at global health from a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional perspective. Students will participate in a range of activities, including lectures focused on global health, team-based learning modules, visits with community organizations and cross-cultural workshops.

Through the Global MINDS Fellowship Program, which she recently launched in June 2017, she is bringing together Western students and faculty to improve the lives of those living with mental illness.
September 12, 2017 Schulich Medicine & Dentistry’s 2017 International Summer Program brought together learners from every corner of the globe for two-weeks of collaborative sharing and education. A joint initiative between the Internationalization Office, the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Western English Language Centre, the Program exposes the medical and health studies graduate trainees to research projects and learning focused on global health issues.
A few students shared their experiences with us. Mahmoud Azzeh, Mary Bamimore, Karima Hazzouti and Zahraa Jamal came to the program with unique academic experiences but shared in the extraordinary learning opportunity to study and learn with international colleagues and leaders at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.

January 16, 2017 In 2012, Dr. Leigh Sowerby, Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, embarked on a medical mission to Guyana to assist with outreach efforts. Since then, Dr. Sowerby has returned to the country multiple times in an effort to expand Otolaryngology care and train more residents in this area through a post-graduate program.
