Moira Stewart PhD, is a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine at Western University and formerly the Dr. Brian W. Gilbert Canada Research Chair in Primary Health Care Research (2003-2017). She has published widely on the topic of Patient-Centered Care and has edited, with colleagues, an international series of books applying the patient-centered clinical method. Dr. Stewart is Co-Principal Investigator of a CIHR Community-based Primary Health Care Team Grant on Patient-Centered Innovations for Persons with Multimorbidity. An innovation, that she led and evaluated, integrated family physician and nurse practitioner care with home care and secondary care. She is a National leader in capacity building for research as the Principal Investigator on a CIHR Strategic Training Grant on interdisciplinary primary health care research called TUTOR-PHC. She works with 50 clinicians on a project creating a researchable database of the Electronic Medical Record data in Southwestern Ontario. She works closely with policy-makers on collaborative programs of research such as the Primary Health Care Program funded by Ontario's Health System Research Fund. Dr. Stewart received the James Mackenzie Medal of the Royal College of General Practitioners (2004), The College of Family Physicians of Canada Family Medicine Researcher of the Year Award (2007), the Martin J. Bass Recognition Award, Department of Family Medicine (2008), Co-recipient of the Dean’s Award of Excellence – Team Award at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (2010), Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2010), Recipient of The College of Family Physicians of Canada, Outstanding Family Medicine Research Article Award for “Integrating Physicians Services in the Home – An Evaluation of an Innovative Program” (2011), The College of Family Physicians of Canada Lifetime Achievement Award in Family Medicine Research (2012), Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, Dean's Award of Excellence for Faculty, Lifetime Achievement Award (2017) and the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) Maurice Wood Award for Lifetime Contribution to Primary Care Research (2017).
