Enhancing Collaboration Between Primary Care and Public Health

Dean Michael Strong, Dr. T. Freeman, Ruta Valaitis PhD, Dr. Amardeep Thind, Dr. Merrick Zwarenstein at Feb 11 event: Enhancing Collaboration Between Primary Care and Public Health

Dean Strong introduced the session, and MPH students, Family Medicine Residents, Faculty and Staff members participated in this interactive seminar, facilitated by Dr. Ruta Valaitis, McMaster University and Dr. Tom Freeman. Dr. Valaitis’ presentation focused on differing viewpoints about collaboration, including system driven collaborators, cautious collaborators, and competent isolationists. Understanding and managing these different viewpoints is important in building and maintaining Primary Care and Public Health collaborations. Here is a link to Dr. Valaitis’ presentation:

Overall, the attendees were pleased with the presentation, group discussion, and the venue, at WCPHFM. They indicated that the seminar was relevant to their practice/work/training. Moreover, participants reported that the seminar stimulated their interest in Primary Care and Public Health collaboration and to consider potential Primary Care and Public Health collaborative projects.
