Public Health - Point Edward/Sarnia

The rotation takes place primarily at the Lambton Public Health in Point Edward, Ontario. Residents will be exposed to the services and programs of a local public health unit, including the interaction between public health and primary care. The resident will be primarily affiliated with one of the health unit's teams and will be expected to participate in team activities and projects. The resident will also be given an independent project to meet his or her learning objectives and to contribute to the work of the health unit.

Areas of potential exposure include but are not limited to: child health and development, health promotion, healthy environments (food and water safety), infectious diseases, vaccine-preventable diseases, sexually transmitted infections, health systems, emergency preparedness, health advocacy and health management. Although there may be some opportunity to participate in clinics, the focus of this elective will be on population and community health.

The resident will be supervised by the Medical Officer of Health and will be asked to identify a personal learning objective prior to the rotation in addition to any objectives that are specified by the postgraduate medical program. 

Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license are recommended in order to maximize exposure to public health's programs and services.

Scheduling: Can take 1 resident per 4 week rotation block. Max three/year.
