General Internal Medicine - St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital

Contact person: Dr. T.J. Burns

The resident would work on a one to one basis with an internist in a community hospital, and office practice. Included are morning clinical rounds at the St. Thomas EGH and afternoon office. Management of ICU and CCU patients is expected.

The resident will acquire experience with the wide range of general medical problems encountered "in the real world” with hands-on experience in management of these problems. Emphasis is on direct patient care, but time will be provided for discussion of clinical problems and cases. Formal educational rounds occur twice weekly.

Procedures: EKG interpretation, stress testing, and procedures, such as bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, cardioversion, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis and chest tube insertion. This is an opportunity to experience and be exposed to good clinical internal medicine on a first hand basis.

Scheduling: Can take 1 resident/block for 1 or 2 block rotations.
