Medicine CTU/ Ambulatory GIM

Note for 2021/2022:

Traditionally the ambulatory internal medicine rotation has taken place entirely in the outpatient setting through a variety of internal medicine and subspecialty clinics. However, during the pandemic, the rotation has shifted more towards the inpatient setting given the lack of in-person clinic opportunities currently available. For this academic year, the rotation will consist of a combination of internal medicine and subspecialty consultation services (in-patient). We are happy to offer a variety of different weeks/subspecialties that can be customized to meet residents’ needs provided there is ample scheduling lead time (you will be notified in advance of the rotation to give your preferences), and depending on staff availability. Additionally, weeks on the clinical teaching unit (CTU) will also be available. These CTU weeks will be Mon-Fri and will not have any on-call requirements.

As examples: a resident may choose to do 1 week of internal medicine consults + 1 week of endocrinology consults + 1 week of infectious disease consults + 1 week of CTU. Alternatively, a resident may choose to do 2 weeks of CTU + 2 weeks of internal medicine consults.

Ultimately, the goal will be to transition back to a true ambulatory/clinic rotation at some point over the course of the year as clinics open up to in-person visits. We appreciate the residents’ flexibility and understanding during this time.

Medicine CTU – Windsor Regional Hospital, Ouellette Campus - Windsor

This is an experience providing care to acutely ill patients admitted from the emergency room. These are complex patients with undifferentiated medical problems. There is a team of one to three senior Internal Medicine Residents (PGY3), and additional Junior House Staff including one to two PGY1 trainees and four to five clinical clerks.  Morning report, patient rounds, lunch time learning, and In House call are all a part of this experience.
