Announcement: Centre for Studies in Family Medicine Leadership Roles

The Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that the director of the Centre for Studies and Family Medicine (CSFM) and the Director of Research in the Department of Family Medicine is Dr. Amanda Terry. This position was effective May 1 2020.

Dr. Terry is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health. She is just completing the role of Interim Co-Director of the CSFM, which she has held for the past year.

The Director of the CSFM will be assisted in the role by a family physician in the role of clinical liaison physician to the Director. The Liaison Physician for the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine is a new role at the CSFM, created to facilitate research and quality improvement activities by clinical faculty members in collaboration with The Director of Research and colleagues in the CSFM.

Dr. Terry completed her PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Western after doing a B.A. and M.A. in Geography at Wilfred Laurier University and York University respectively. She completed post-doctoral studies at the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine in 2010. In 2013 she was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Schulich Interprofessional Program in Public Health and promoted to Associate Professor in 2019.

Dr. Terry is an experienced researcher and educator and is extremely knowledgeable about the CSFM and the strategic directions of the DFM. Dr Terry has developed research expertise in family physician use of electronic health records and health services research in general. She has provided excellent guidance to the Centre during her term as interim co-Director and I am looking forward to her leadership over the next 5 years.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sonny Cejic has accepted the role of Liaison physician for the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine.

Dr. Cejic is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Medical Director of the Byron Family Medical Centre He is also Medical Leader of the Records and Quality Improvement Committee in the Department and is just completing the role of Interim Co-Director of the CSFM, which he has held for the past year.

The Liaison Physician for the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine is a new role at the CSFM, created to facilitate research and quality improvement activities by clinical faculty members in collaboration with The Director of Research and colleagues in the CSFM.

Dr. Cejic completed a BSc and MSc in Physiology and a BEd at Western University before completing his MD at the University of Toronto in 1996. He completed family medicine training at Western and received his CCFP in 1998. Dr. Cejic was first appointed to Western clinical faculty in 2001 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008.

Dr. Cejic has an excellent grasp of the realities of conducting research while teaching and running a busy clinical practice. He brings considerable technological expertise to this position and will provide leadership to clinical colleagues with respect to their research and quality improvement endeavours.
