The paper, "The degree of adherence to CONSORT reporting guidelines for the abstracts of randomised clinical trials published in anaesthesia journals: A cross-sectional study of reporting adherence in 2010 and 2016", recently published in the European Journal of Anaesthesiology, was authored by Jeffrey Chow, a graduate of our MSc program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

The research comprised a portion of Mr. Chow's thesis, investigating bibliometrics in the anesthesiology literature. This project examined the degree of adherence by researchers to the CONSORT reporting guidelines for Abstracts of clinical trials. The Abstract of any clinical trial is very important to report correctly, as many readers will never read the full text of an article. Therefore, having high quality Abstract reporting should be a goal of all authors.

The research demonstrated that, among the top anesthesiology journals, Abstract reporting was done quite poorly, and that "Abstracts for many anaesthesiology RCTs are incomplete selective summaries of the entire article".

Jeffrey Chow also published two other papers in major anesthesia journals as part of his thesis work.
