The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is proud to share the exciting news that Dr. Mark Ferro, graduate of our PhD program in 2011 and supervised by Dr. Kathy Speechley, has been announced as the new Canada Research Chair in Youth Mental Health, by the Government of Canada.
Dr. Ferro is currently the Director of the Advancing Research in Children’s Health (ARCH) Lab and Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo, as well as Assistant Professor (Adjunct), in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, at McMaster University.
Dr. Ferro's research has focused on advancing the understanding of youth multimorbidity, specifically the co-occurrence of physical and mental disorders in children, youth, and young adults. As Canada Research Chair, he will be investigating how systemic inflammation may be associated with the onset of mental disorders among children, and will also explore the role physical activity and socioeconomic status play in the link between physical and mental health in children.
