  • Annual Carol Buck Lecture and Graduate Scholarship

    On Friday November 25th, the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics successfully hosted the Annual Carol Buck Lecture and Graduate Scholarship. We would like to offer our gracious thanks to Dr. Eduardo L. Franco, of McGill University, the Carol Buck Lecturer, and our warm congratulations to Jacqueline Kueper, MSc Candidate, the scholarship winner.     Dr. Martin, an assistant professor in the departments of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine and Epidemiology and Biostatistics, as well as MEDICI Director, is one of two project leads on the recently designated World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre.

    At Kidney Week 2016 the only major award given out will be the Young Investigator Award. The recipient will be Dr. Amit Garg, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine, and Cross-Appointed Professor, Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Western University.   • Dr. Vladimir Hachinski awarded prestigious McLaughlin Medal

    Join our department in congratulating Dr. Vladimir Hachinski on being awarded the Royal Society of Canada’s prestigious McLaughlin Medal. A Distinguished University Professor of Neurology at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and a Lawson Health Research Institute Scientist, he is also a Cross-Appointed Professor with the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Dr. Hachinski is a co-supervisor of PhD Candidate, Josh Cerasuolo, along with Dr. Lauren Cipriano and Dr. Neil Klar.

    Dr. Saverio Stranges has been appointed as Chair, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2021.

    Please join our department in congratulating Dr. Anita Kothari and Dr. Charles Weijer for being named among the nation’s top scholars in the arts, humanities and sciences by the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Anita Kothari is an Associate Professor with the School of Health Studies and the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics (Cross). Dr. Weijer is a Professor and the Canada Research Chair in Bioethics, with appointments in the Department of Philosophy, Medicine (joint), and Epidemiology and Biostatistics (cross). Also, he is currently a co-supervisor for Jasmine Tung, MSc Candidate, along with Dr. K.Speechley.

  • Graduate Teaching Assistants Collective Agreement

    In January, an agreement was reached with the Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA). The new agreement was ratified by the GTA Union on January 18 and by Western University’s Board of Governors on January 28. The new agreement is effective as of September 1, 2015.
