August 01, 2018 In July, we launched Discovery Healthcare, a one-week medical science summer camp for high school students throughout Southwestern Ontario (Chatham, Leamington, Sarnia, Wingham). This camp was designed to mentor and inspire interest in pursuing a career in medicine and the healthcare field.
May 30, 2018 One hundred and seventy medical students from Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry experienced what rural medicine is like throughout Southwestern Ontario from May 22 - 31, 2018. Akash Verma, a first-year medical student from the Windsor Campus states, “We remember learning about these in class, but it’s just so nice to see them in person – it’s a completely different experience.”

March 02, 2018 Melissa Cookson, Medicine Class of 2019, is an avid participant in learning experiences offered through the Distributed Education program. "Learning in various regional settings is a unique experience that medical students have to be a part of to understand. Seeing what life is like practicing in a rural community is not only interesting to be a part of, but it can also help in future career decisions, as it has for me," explained Cookson.
December 06, 2017 Congratulations to Dr. George Kim, Assistant Dean, Rural & Regional Community Engagement and 3rd-year medical student, Melissa Cookson, who received an award for their research poster, “Factors Influencing Faculty Engagement with Canadian Medical Schools” at the Family Medicine Forum, November 8 – 11, 2017, in Montréal, Quebec. This was the largest annual conference for family physicians and many of Schulich Medicine’s research and clinical faculty and staff presented posters, workshops or education sessions.

October 19, 2017 Five of Schulich’s 1st and 2nd-year medical students, Dylan Russelo, Leah Sinai, John Cameron, Cassie Poole and Kelly MacIsaac, completed the summer elective programs offered through the Office of Distributed Education this past summer. Students in the Discovery Healthcare (formerly MedLINCs) and Indigenous MedLINCs programs engaged in developing programming for summer camps for youth ages 12 through 15, creating outreach programs designed to mentor and inspire youth to consider future careers in healthcare.

September 15, 2016 The Ontario Medical Student Weekend (OMSW)is an event organized by medical students for first-year medical students from across the province showcasing a variety of talks, workshops and a Medical Expo career fair. It will be held this year on October 14-15, 2016 at the London Convention Centre and will be hosting around 700 students from across the six Ontario schools.
June 30, 2016 Over the past few months, we have reviewed our Travel and Accommodation Policy and benchmarked it with other programs in Ontario which offer financial support for rural and regional placements for learners. As a result, changes have been implemented for those rotations which meet the eligibility requirements (effective July 1, 2016).

The tranquil Saugeen River snakes its way around the outer edge of heritage buildings, bringing an element of natural charm to the town of roughly 5,000 people.
