Discovery Week - Giving aspiring physicians an opportunity to engage with your community

Annually, partners across Southwestern Ontario welcome Schulich Medicine students with open arms in their communities as part of Discovery Week. It’s the beginning of a relationship that will continue throughout their medical training and, for some, the rest of their lives.

Discovery Week is an integral, compulsory one-week placement at the end of first year for all undergraduate medical students. More than 3,000 medical students have participated in Discovery Week since 1998.

Community physicians are critical to the success of Discovery Week and the educational journey of medical students.

During the week, you and your team will work with medical students as they shadow you and engage with patients, other health care professionals and the broader community. While in your community, students are encouraged to fully engage in life in the community by meeting locals, attending social events and touring all that the areas have to offer. As the week draws to an end, some students will already be thinking and planning their return as residents and physicians.

Join more than 300 faculty members across Southwestern Ontario and participate in Discovery Week.
