Posterior function & contacts
  • Isolation and operative field control.
  • Cavity design for direct posterior restorations.
  • Predictable bonding protocol.
  • Matrix systems and predictable contact formation.
  • Layering techniques and occlusal anatomy.
  • Hands-on: develop functional posterior anatomy through guided drawing of essential occlusal landmarks, then apply layering techniques to Class II restorations of varying cavity sizes, including deep margin elevation.

Anterior Composite Restorations

Anterior esthetics & form
  • The 8-step approach to natural tooth colour analysis.
  • Differentiate composite resin systems by translucency and select the right material for each application.
  • Predictable layering techniques.
  • Anterior tooth morphology and anatomical form.
  • Finishing and polishing protocols.
  • Hands-on: restore Class IV fractures using shade analysis, a lingual matrix, and natural layering to reproduce natural anatomy, colour, translucency, and incisal effects.

Dr. Anwar Al-Fayume

Dr. Anwar Al-Fayume

BDS, MDSc, M.Ed

Dr. Anwar Al-Fayume is an Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, and Course Director for the Integrated Restorative Dentistry courses for third- and fourth-year dental students.

Dr. Al-Fayume also serves as Academic Lead for Continuing Dental Education and as a Continuing Dental Education Consultant for the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, contributing to the development and delivery of evidence-informed educational programs for dental professionals.

He holds a Master of Dental Science in Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics and a Master of Education in Health Professions Education, combining clinical expertise with advanced training in teaching, assessment, and curriculum development.

Alongside his academic and educational leadership roles, Dr. Al-Fayume maintains an active clinical practice in London, Ontario, with a focus on comprehensive restorative dentistry.
