Staffing updates

Dentistry is pleased to welcome Sylvie Richer back to Schulich as Manager, Clinic Operations effective June 20, 2022. Sylvie is a registered dental hygienist with many years of experience in a dental setting and she also has first-hand experience as a manager and clinician.

It should come as no surprise if her name seems familiar to you, because Sylvie was previously the manager of CDE. For the past two years, Sylvie has been the Manager, Health and Wellness Clinic at Fanshawe College where she was responsible for the overall direction and operation of onsite teaching clinics. We are thrilled to have her back.

On the other hand, we do have several departures to share as well. Dr. Dorion is stepping down from the role of Assistant Director, Clinical Affairs as of August 31st, 2022. Dr. Garcia noted that his “…amazing problem-solving skills, strong relationships within and outside our Schulich community, strong administrative experiences, high standards in clinics operations and a strong understanding of our regulatory and accreditation bodies” will be missed. We are pleased, though, that Dr. Dorion will stay on as an adjunct faculty member and continue teaching for the foreseeable future.

As announced in last month’s newsletter, Manager of Dental Education Brenda Davis has officially retired. A drop-in celebration was held in her honour and we already miss her vast expertise and infectious laugh.

Also departing Dentistry this month is Yvonne Neatby, Office Manager. She is remaining within Schulich, however, having accepted the position of Manager, Administration & Finance with the Department of Oncology. Recruitment for Brenda’s and Yvonne’s roles is ongoing.

Finally, we are saying goodbye to Dr. Trevor Thang, who is headed to Toronto this September as an Assistant Professor in the teaching stream at University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Thang was a recipient of a Schulich Award of Excellence this year: the Continuing Dental Education Educator Award, and we will most definitely miss his contributions to Schulich Dentistry.
